Join Britain's biggest Staffordshire Bull Terrier walk at Weston Park

The county that gave the Staffordshire Bull Terrier its name is inviting every Staffy in Britain to visit for the day

Staffordshire Bull Terrier owners from across the UK are invited to what is expected to be the biggest Staffy dog walk ever held.

The Big Staffy Stroll takes place at Weston Park, Staffordshire, on Saturday 18 July, when hundreds of Staffordshire Bull Terriers are expected to join the walk through the park’s Capability Brown landscape.

The event is open to all - even if you don't own a Staffy. From puppies to old timers enjoying their later years, every dog is welcome.  

Staffy lovers will be particularly pleased to hear that leading the Big Staffy Stroll will be two of Staffordshire's most iconic Staffordshire Bull Terriers - Sergeant Watchman VI and Sergeant Watchman VII - accompanied by their handler, Warrant Officer Greg Hedges.

The event marks the grand finale of the successful Staffy Trail, a ten-week celebration that has encouraged thousands of people to explore Staffordshire with Staffy, the county's friendly, new Staffordshire Bull Terrier mascot.

Robin Hall, Staffordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said: "Staffy has become a fantastic ambassador for Staffordshire, helping us showcase everything that makes our county special.

“The trail may be ending, but Staffy's story is only just beginning, and he will continue championing Staffordshire as the nation's playground for years to come.”

The day begins at 10am with a guided group walk through the magnificent Weston Park estate, taking owners and their dogs along scenic routes through more than 1,000 acres of historic parkland.

Visitors can also enjoy a special mini Staffy Trail, discover ideas for future dog-friendly days out across Staffordshire, and relax with refreshments while meeting fellow owners and breed enthusiasts.

The event is also supporting the Senior Staffy Club Dog Rescue, whose volunteers will be on hand throughout the morning to share stories about the charity's work rehoming older Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

The rescue is currently preparing to open new kennels in Stafford and hopes the event will introduce even more people to the wonderful qualities of senior Staffies.

Kate Lee, founder of the Senior Staffy Club Dog Rescue, said: "Staffordshire Bull Terriers are loyal, loving dogs who form amazing bonds with their families.

“The Big Staffy Stroll is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything that makes the breed so special while bringing together owners from across the country.

"We're looking forward to meeting lots of fellow Staffy lovers and sharing the work we're doing to give older dogs the second chance they deserve."

As well as celebrating the breed that carries the county's name, organisers hope the Big Staffy Stroll will become an annual gathering for Staffordshire Bull Terrier owners from across Britain.

Admission to the event is available with a special discounted Weston Park day ticket of just £6.50 per person, which includes entry to the Big Staffy Stroll, access to Weston Park's beautiful gardens and parkland, the Woodland Adventure Playground and the special event activities. Children under four go free.
